Afternoon tea is a sweet seaside treat

Afternoon tea overlooking Saundersfoot Bay in a swanky four-star hotel, does life get any better?

Well, perhaps if the Welsh weather had been on side, but a few spots of drizzle certainly didn’t dampen spirits or the scenery.

Perched on a hill above the beach, St Brides Spa Hotel has a prime spot on the coast and there’s nothing like savouring the views whilst you whet your appetite at the same time.

Of course, the views do come with a price.

Full afternoon tea for two in the panoramic gallery set myself and my dining partner back £19.95 each.

But if you’re all about teas, scones and the whole experience, then it’s worth it.

And you might be surprised by just how much you actually get for your money.

We were presented with a three-tiered tower of treats, starting with a selection of finger sandwiches, a layer of fruit and plain scones with clotted cream and raspberry preserve, and a mighty platter of banana bread, lemon cake, chocolate pastry tarts and mini panna cotta.

Seriously, we were both defeated by the end of it.
